In the 16th century, as printing spread, illustrated books
proliferated. Among significant examples is this llustrated
Apocalypse from 1561, with engravings by Jean Duvet.
Duvet is best known as one of the great printmakers of the
French Renaissance.
Duvet's "Apocalypse" contains 24 engravings. The first plate
is a self-portrai. In subject matter he borrows from Albrecht
Dürer's wood engravings, yet his style is highly individual.
Ours is a facsimile edition printed by Eugrammia Press in
1962.
